      Love my new ottoman

      I had been wanting this for a very long time but it was discontinued. Thank you to the koala customer service staff that helped me to get one. It’s the perfect addition to my longer and cork sofa.

    What is cork fabric and how is it made?

    Cork is a natural plant tissue from the bark of the cork oak tree.

    Cork harvesting is the process of removing the bark off the cork tree, the tree is not cut down only the bark is removed. By Stripping the bark it actually helps the tree regenerate. Cork trees can live to 200+ Years.

    To transform cork into a fabric it is boiled and steamed to improve elasticity before heat is applied where it is pressed into blocks. From there, the blocks are sliced into thin sheets that can be transformed into fabric without many of the heavy chemicals and nasties used used to create traditional leathers.

    Is cork fabric good for the environment?

    Cork oak increases its ability to absorb carbon dioxide gases during the natural regeneration process following stripping of the bark – a stripped cork tree absorbs, on average, five times more carbon dioxide. The ability to retain carbon dioxide is also passed on to manufactured cork products.
