Many of us have been spending a lot more time at home right now, including workdays. While the expectation is the same, the environment is not, and this can have an affect on your productivity.
As a result of organisations and schools having to implement working from home without warning or preparation, we want to help you succeed and maximise your WFH setup, particularly for those who may not have had to experienced this before. For those who are well-versed, here’s a refresher!
Continue your regular routine
Although it might sound silly, it is important to establish your regular routine as if you were going into the office. Get ready for work how you normally would if that’s a shower, brekky, coffee or run, and even get dressed (no need to go full out, but we would suggest at least out of your pajamas). This helps you get in a mindset that you’re ready for work.
Establish a work zone
Your bed and sofa may seem like attractive options to set up shop, unfortunately it is not recommended as we want to ensure you remain good posture. A dining table or any desk and chair is perfect. Find a space in your home where you can set up your laptop, books, pens, whatever else you need. Declutter all the stuff around you that might distract you – this will help you stay focused on your workload and align your mind with an in-office experience.
Have a to-do list
Just as you would at work, have a to do list to help structure your day and manage productivity. Ensure you schedule regular breaks, to avoid feeling burnout and help you stay focused.
Take a break
It’s okay to take breaks! Actually, we encourage it! Being stationary can lead to adverse health risks over time. Even if it’s just getting up and walking around the living room for 10 minutes, we would recommend for you to get up, stretch your legs, arms, and eyes. During this time, it can be stressful, so make sure you read some tips on how to care for your mental health while working from home.
